Happy Birthday to Her

Eight years ago, nearly this very minute, I was blessed to witness my niece’s arrival into this World.  She has brought much joy and laughter to our family.  She’ll be heading to 2nd grade tomorrow.  When I was a classroom teacher, my students and I would get to know each other at the beginning of the year by sharing our hopes and dreams for the year.  Here are some of my hopes and dreams for my niece this year (and the years to come).

I hope you know that you are loved by many, many people. But most importantly, you are loved by your Creator. I hope you know and believe that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. I hope you learn to love learning and reading and writing. I hope you’ll use your gifts and talents to be a light in the world. I hope you learn to embrace change. I hope you are friends to those others have rejected. I hope you seek friends that will be positive influences in your life. I hope you learn and grow as you make mistakes in life. I hope you think about your actions before you do. I hope you love this life you’ve been given, and give thanks each day for your time in this world.
And for today, I hope you have a happy, happy birthday!
